Gastroenterology at The London Clinic

Hero description: Gastroenterology is the care of the whole digestive system, covering the gullet, stomach, bowel, and related organs such as the liver and pancreas, which together break down food, absorb nutrients and remove waste. Digestive symptoms can be persistent and worrying, and they deserve a clear answer. Our gastroenterologists and interventional endoscopists on Harley Street investigate and treat the full range of digestive conditions in one connected place.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

You can usually be seen within days, often within 48 hours. Gastroscopy findings are often available the same day, with biopsy results typically within three to four days.

No referral is needed for a consultation – you can contact us directly. A referral letter is only required if you want to go straight to a diagnostic test such as a colonoscopy.

Complex digestive cases are reviewed by specialist multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) covering areas such as upper-GI, hepatobiliary and pancreatic, colorectal cancer and IBD. These bring together gastroenterologists, interventional endoscopists, surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, pharmacists, dietitians and specialist nurses, who review your imaging and results together to agree the best plan – especially valuable for cases where expert consensus matters most.

A gastroenterologist treats the full range of digestive conditions — reflux, coeliac disease, Barrett’s oesophagus, pancreatitis, IBD and bowel conditions — across the gullet, stomach, small bowel, pancreas and beyond.

Most major UK and international insurers cover gastroenterology consultations and treatment, subject to your policy. Our team can check your cover before your appointment.
