How to use your private medical insurance

We make it simple to access treatment when using your insurance. Here’s how it works:

Insurance, bookings and consultants

Once you’ve confirmed cover with your private medical insurer, you can book your appointment with a consultant at The London Clinic. When booking your appointment, please have the following information to hand:

  • The name of your private medical insurer
  • Your membership number
  • Your level of cover and details of the insurance scheme
  • Your pre-authorisation code from your insurer (if provided)
  • The name of your preferred consultant - or ask us to recommend leading consultants that suit your needs and circumstances.
  • Dates and times you’re available for your appointment

When your treatment is complete, we’ll send a final bill to your private medical insurer for your hospital treatment and use of our facility. Your consultant will also send a separate bill to your insurer for their professional fees.

Please note, some insurers may only cover part of your treatment cost, and all policies have different levels of excess charges. This means you may need to pay a part of the bill yourself.

If there’s an amount to pay, your insurer will notify you.

If you have any payments due directly to The London Clinic, we’ll contact you securely through Patient Zone, our trusted payment partner.

How to choose your consultant

Make a payment online

If you need to pay all or part of your bill, then you can do so quickly and securely via The London Clinic's online payment portal. It's completely secure, and accepts all major debit and credit cards including American Express, and allows patients to make a partial or full payment on their account with us at any time. It is safe and secure, with instant confirmation.

Yes, The London Clinic (TLC) is recognised by most major UK and many international private medical insurance providers. We recommend confirming your individual cover directly with your insurer before your appointment.

Most of our consultants are registered with major insurance companies. However, not all consultants may be covered by every provider. Please check with both your consultant’s office and your insurance company to ensure they are recognised.

To book an appointment, you can contact us directly via phone or email or complete our online appointment request form. A referral from your GP or another healthcare professional may be required depending on your insurance policy.

Before your appointment or treatment, please contact your insurance provider to obtain a pre-authorisation number. This number confirms your cover for the service. Some insurers may require additional authorisation for diagnostic tests, procedures, or follow-up appointments—always check with them in advance.

Coverage varies depending on your policy. While most consultations, diagnostics, and treatments are covered, some services – such as certain therapies, medications, or administrative fees – may not be included. Please confirm the details with your insurer before proceeding.

It’s completely secure, can accept all major debit and credit cards including American Express and allows patients to make a partial or full payment on your account with us at any time. A detailed invoice will be provided to assist with reimbursement or record-keeping.
