Bio

I am an experienced general surgeon who consults exclusively at the prestigious London Clinic in Harley Street.
After more than 20 years as an NHS consultant I am now devoting my time to my private practice and research interests. Previously, I was consultant surgeon to St George’s Hospital and The Royal Marsden Hospital where I was Medical Director for Private Care and chair of the Hepatobiliary section of the London Cancer Alliance and during which time, I was responsible for the LCA guidelines on management of hepatobiliary and neuroendocrine tumours and the British Society of Gastroenterology guidelines on the management of GIST (GastroIntestinal Stromal Tumours).

After qualification from St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School, University of London I trained in surgery in London and Portsmouth. Seeking specialist training in laparoscopy and Surgical Oncology I trained with Professor J-L DuLucq in Bordeaux, a pioneer of laparoscopy, and later in Paris. I have two fellowships in surgical oncology from the world-famous cancer centres of Memorial Sloan-Kettering in New York and the National Cancer Center Hospital in Toyko and for which I received a King’s Fund Scholarship award and British Council scholarship award.

I remain ‘research active’, and my main research interests now are in the immunology of cancer in particular with reference to pancreas cancer and the supervision of doctoral students is part of my portfolio of activities. I am a member of the EORTC working groups in GI cancers and soft tissue sarcoma and the craft societies of The Pancreatic Society of GB, Society of Surgical Oncology, International Gastric Cancer Association and British Hernia Society.

Committed to improving the outcomes from cancer I have been part of the All Party Parliamentary Group for pancreas cancer and am especially interested to advocate and promote ways in which we can achieve earlier diagnosis in otherwise difficult to diagnose cancers such as pancreas.
My practice attracts many overseas patients who constitutes about half of my work.
