GI Genius
We provide a private colonoscopy service using GI Genius for detection and removal of precancerous colon lesions and polyps. The advanced GI Genius endoscopy system enables your specialist to detect 30% more precancerous polyps and lesions than standard colonoscopy alone.
Overview
Camera investigation of the large bowel (colonoscopy) with GI Genius allows your gastroenterologist to locate precancerous lesions and polyps in your colon, 30% more accurately than standard colonoscopy alone.
GI Genius is a new, state-of-the-art AI system that can detect potentially cancerous lesions with far greater accuracy and speed than the naked eye.
The system acts like a second pair of AI eyes, alerting your gastroenterologist to potential tumours including ones that are very small, flat and hard to see.
Your colonoscopy with GI Genius will take place in one of our private, state-of-the-art endoscopy theatres near Harley Street.

FAQs
At The London Clinic your colonoscopy with GI Genius is a same-day procedure that normally takes around thirty minutes with a sedative or under local anaesthetic.
Your gastroenterologist begins by gently placing a thin, camera-tipped flexible tube, called a colonoscope through your anus to get into your colon.
Then they insert a small amount of carbon dioxide gas into your colon to expand it (insufflation) so they can see the walls of your colon more easily.
During the procedure, the colonoscope relays high-quality images of your colon wall to a computer screen that GI Genius analyses in real time.
Using GI Genius your gastroenterologist can accurately identify and remove any precancerous lesions or take tissue samples (biopsies) along the length of your colon.
After the procedure, your care team will take you to the recovery suite, so they can safely monitor you, until you come round from the anaesthetic.
You may feel sleepy (sedated) for up to twenty four hours after the procedure, so you must not drive or operate machinery during this time.
We can help you arrange safe transportation home.
Having a colonoscopy with GI Genius improves the detection of some precancerous lesions and polyps you may have by more than 30%.
Your gastroenterologist may suggest a colonoscopy with GI Genius if you:
- Need a routine bowel screening
- Have early stage bowel cancer
- Have colorectal cancer in your family
- Have abnormal bowel symptoms such as bleeding, diarrhoea or constipation
- Have unexplained weight loss
- Have unexplained abdominal pain
Anyone can develop bowel cancer but you have a slightly higher chance if you:
- Are over the age of fifty
- Have a close relative who developed bowel cancer
- Have inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis or crohn’s disease)
- Have bowel polyps
- Are overweight or obese
- Have diabetes
- Have had chemotherapy or radiotherapy for abdominal cancer
- Eat a lot of red meat or processed foods
- Do not eat much fibre
- Regularly smoke
- Drink more than the recommended amounts
Because a colonoscopy with GI Genius is minimally invasive you should recover fairly quickly.
For the first twenty four hours you must avoid driving or operating machinery.
Most people find they can go back to work and carry on with normal activities a couple of days after the procedure.
If you have a colonoscopy with GI Genius under sedation or local anaesthetic, you may feel pain after it wears off. You can manage the pain with painkillers for the next few days.
You may have some rectal bleeding and slight abdominal bloating for a day or two afterwards.
Your care team will advise you on aftercare and how you can look after yourself following the procedure.
If you have blood clots, or are passing large amounts of blood in your poo, you will need to contact your care team so they can help you right away.
