To help treat serious gynaecological conditions

Heavy periods/menorrhagia treatment consultation at The London Clinic

Your gynaecologist may recommend medication such as Non steroidal Anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), the combined contraceptive pill, which reduces bleeding by about a third and tranexamic acid, which can reduce the heaviness of bleeding by almost half (40-50%) in most cases.

If you’re not trying to get pregnant, your gynaecologist may recommend you have an IUS (Mirena) fitted. It contains the hormone levonorgestrel, which is slowly released and stops the lining of your womb from growing. The IUS lasts up to five years and should help to improve your menorrhagia within the first three to six months.

Endometrial resection

The London Clinic offers the option of an endometrial resection. This is an operation to remove the lining (known as the endometrium) of your uterus.
