Bio

Mr Jahangir Ahmed is a consultant head & neck, sleep, and airway surgeon with a reputation for clinical excellence, surgical precision, and deeply patient-centred care. His practice covers the full spectrum of ENT and head and neck conditions, and is particularly sought after for his work in airway and sleep apnoea surgery using cutting-edge procedures, such as transoral robotic surgery (TORS) and hypoglossal nerve stimulator (HGNS) implantation.

Educated at the University of Cambridge and Imperial College School of Medicine, he graduated with distinction in 2001 and was awarded the Gold Medal in Pathology. He also holds an MA in Experimental Psychology from Cambridge and a PhD in Molecular Oncology from The Barts Cancer Institute, where his research contributed to the development of genetically optimised viruses for cancer immunotherapy.

Mr Ahmed serves as Clinical Lead for ENT at the Royal London Hospital and plays a central role in the multidisciplinary and surgical management of head and neck cancer as well as thyroid disease. His broad and comprehensive training enables him to provide expert care across the full spectrum of ear, nose, and throat conditions. Mr Ahmed is also passionate about education and innovation. He is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London and serves as education co-lead for ENT at Barts Health. He trains junior surgeons, publishes widely in peer-reviewed journals, and presents regularly at national and international conferences, ensuring his practice remains firmly rooted in the latest evidence-based care.

Respected for his calm, thoughtful manner and clear communication, Mr Ahmed takes time to understand everyone’s concerns, explains options clearly, and remains closely involved throughout the patient journey; from initial diagnosis to long-term recovery.

Mr Ahmed has availability for appointments throughout the week, including evening and weekends.

My expertise lies in helping you breathe easier, speak more clearly and swallow with ease. My patients say I help them live a longer, healthier life by focusing on treatment that suits them best – whether it is restoring their sleep or removing cancer with exact precision.

Snoring or obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA)

For patients who snore, he offers a comprehensive range of diagnostic and therapeutic options that include drug-induced sedation endoscopy (DISE), palate and tonsil surgery using radiofrequency, coblation and laser-assisted procedures. Uniquely, for patients who cannot tolerate CPAP, he is able to complement these techniques with  two of the most advanced treatments currently available in the World: hypoglossal nerve stimulation (HGNS) and transoral robotic surgery (TORS). Both are minimally invasive approaches that can restore unobstructed natural breathing during sleep. Mr Ahmed has successfully helped more than 75% of CPAP-intolerant patients come off CPAP entirely; a life-changing outcome.

Nasal obstruction and sinus disease

He is highly experienced in treating nasal obstruction and sinus disease, often overlooked causes of poor sleep and breathing. Using advanced endoscopic and image-guided techniques and tools, he is able to correct deviated septums, reduce enlarged turbinates, and treat chronic sinusitis, nasal polyps, and other structural blockages to restore nasal airflow.

Thyroid

Mr Ahmed runs a high-volume thyroid surgical practice with an exceptionally low complication rate. As well as precise removal of the thyroid gland, he routinely performs selective neck dissection for advanced thyroid cancer, with a strong emphasis on nerve preservation to protect voice and neck function. He also offers parathyroid surgery through a small neck incision.

Head and Neck tumours

He treats both benign and malignant tumours that arise in all regions of the head and neck, including the tonsils, tongue, pharynx (throat), larynx (voice box), salivary glands, and thyroid. Renowned for his expertise in scarless transoral (through-the-mouth) surgery, he employs advanced techniques such as microlaryngoscopy, laser surgery, coblation, and robotic-assisted approaches. His extensive experience with the Da Vinci robotic system places him among the most experienced and highest-volume transoral robotic surgeons in the UK, enabling him to offer safe, precise, and minimally invasive treatments that prioritise functional preservation and long-term quality of life.

His team at The London Clinic provides comprehensive cancer care, supported by advanced diagnostic services and expert radiology and pathology input. Patients benefit from access to specialist oncology teams delivering cutting-edge therapies, including radiotherapy, proton therapy, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy. Dedicated clinical nurse specialists (CNS) and a programme of long-term follow-up and rehabilitation ensure continuous care throughout the treatment journey.

Voice, airway and swallow disorders

Mr Ahmed offers advanced, highly specialised care in the management of voice disorders, swallowing difficulties, and complex airway reconstruction. He has extensive surgical expertise in laser microsurgery and minimally invasive endoscopic airway procedures. When required, his experience in open neck surgery for cancer enables him to complement endoscopic techniques with open approaches in rare or complex situations. His practice is defined by a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach, working closely with internationally renowned experts in speech and swallow rehabilitation.
