Prof Howard Branley Consultant Profile
Professor Howard Branley is a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine at the London Clinic, with over 30 years experience. He specialises in the care of patients with asthma, chest infection/pneumonia, PE (pulmonary embolism), lung cancer & lung nodules, interstitial lung disease, sleep apnoea, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
He has particular expertise in evaluating unexplained breathlessness and reduced exercise capacity (including post-COVID fatigue), using advanced diagnostic tools such as cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) and comprehensive pulmonary function testing.
Professor Branley trained in Respiratory Medicine in London teaching hospitals including The Royal Brompton, The Hammersmith, St Mary’s and Charing Cross Hospitals. He has a keen interest in medical education and he is a Visiting Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the University of West London. He has been an Honorary Senior Lecturer at University College London, Imperial College London and the University of Buckingham. Professor Branley was also an Honorary NHS Consultant in Respiratory Medicine at the Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Professor Branley is dedicated to delivering patient-centred, evidence-based care, with a focus on improving quality of life and long-term outcomes. His academic interests include exercise physiology, respiratory diagnostics, aviation medicine and preventive lung health. He works closely with colleagues at the London Clinic to provide integrated, multidisciplinary care, including being a core member of the Lung Cancer multidisciplinary team.
