Mr Rupert Wharton Consultant Profile
Rupert Wharton is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with Grosvenor Orthopaedic Partners at The London Clinic in Marylebone, New Victoria Hospital and Kingston Hospital. He has an interest in sports injuries, fractures and degenerative conditions of the hand and wrist. He works closely with hand therapy colleagues to make sure all non-operative options have been tried before surgery is considered.
Rupert trained on the North West Thames Rotation after ranking first in the 2014 national selection for Trauma and Orthopaedics. He went on to complete fellowships at the internationally renowned Wrightington Upper Limb Unit, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and the Pulvertaft Hand Centre in Derby, which led to his subspecialty and research interest in hand, wrist and elbow surgery.
The British Orthopaedic Association awarded him the Soli Lam Travelling Fellowship to the prestigious Institut Kaplan in Barcelona and Institut de la Main in Paris.
He is an alumnus of the British Orthopaedic Association’s Future Leaders Programme 2022. He is also an officer in the Royal Naval Reserve and has a keen interest in leadership in healthcare and in the operating theatre.
Rupert has served on the British Orthopaedic Trainees Association committee as Publicity Officer and produced its annual journal, JOINT. He represented the association on the British Orthopaedic Association’s Professional Practice and Patient Liaison Committees. Between 2014 and 2020 he was the association’s Linkman for the North West Thames Rotation, and from 2019 to 2020 he ran the deanery core curriculum training.
Outside work, Rupert is a member of his local tennis and golf clubs, follows a daily gym and weightlifting programme in South West London, and is a member of the Brentford Football Club Members’ Club. He is married with three children and lives in South West London.
