In our Day in the Life series, we hear from Oreene, a Senior Scrub Practitioner in MITU and Day Surgery Theatres. She shares what drew her to The London Clinic, what a typical day involves and how the team has supported her to grow.
I joined The London Clinic because of its reputation for delivering high-quality, patient-centred care and its strong focus on clinical excellence. As a Scrub Practitioner, it was important for me to work somewhere that genuinely prioritises patient safety, teamwork and professional standards, and that is exactly what I found here.
I work within MITU and Day Surgery Theatres as a Senior Scrub Practitioner, supporting a wide range of specialties including ENT, Urology, Gynaecology, Plastics, Ophthalmology, Dermatology and Pain procedures. One of the things I enjoy most about the role is the variety. No two days are ever exactly the same, and every theatre list requires preparation, focus, teamwork and adaptability.
For me, being a Scrub Practitioner is about much more than passing instruments during surgery. It is about helping to create a safe, organised and controlled environment where the surgical team can fully focus on the patient.

A typical day starts with preparing equipment and instruments for the theatre list, making sure everything needed for each procedure is ready and available. Every surgeon works slightly differently, so attention to detail and organisation are essential. Team briefings and debriefings are also an important part of the day, helping us continuously improve how we work together and deliver care.

MITU is a fast-paced environment, and there are naturally busy and challenging days, but there is always support from the people around you. Communication, teamwork and staying calm under pressure are what keep the department running smoothly and safely.
Over the past few years, I have developed both professionally and personally. Working here has strengthened my communication, organisation and time management skills, while also helping me build confidence in theatre procedures, equipment handling and working under pressure.
The London Clinic has also supported my ongoing development through hands-on learning, training opportunities and further study. I am currently completing a Perioperative Practice course, which is helping me continue to grow my knowledge and skills as a Scrub Practitioner.
What has kept me here most is the recognition and support I have received from the people around me.

Looking back, I am most proud of how much I have grown in confidence and skill, especially across different specialties and within such a collaborative team environment.
