Ms Claire Fitzgerald Consultant Profile
Having graduated in 2003 from the University of Wales, College of Medicine, Miss Fitzgerald completed her higher surgical training spanning both the Welsh and London regions, undertaking prestigious upper limb fellowships at Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital as well as University College Hospital.
Miss Fitzgerald was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in 2015 at Barth Health NHS Trust and is an integral part of the orthopaedic team delivering elective and trauma care across the trust – including at the prestigious Royal London Hospital, the largest trauma centre in Europe.
Miss Fitzgerald specialises in a wide range of complex shoulder and elbow reconstructive treatments including arthroscopic and replacement surgery. She strives to deliver high quality, effective care to all of her patients using up to date evidence based techniques.
As well as achieving a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Education, Miss Fitzgerald is an approved Royal College of Surgeons Advanced Trauma Life Support® Instructor, training junior orthopaedic surgeons across the UK in the management of acute life-threatening injuries.
Miss Fitzgerald has published scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and played a key role in setting up a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) clinical randomized controlled trial.
