Bio

Mr. Jonathan Bird qualified from University College London School of Medicine in 1997. Joining the British Army whilst at medical school, he witnessed the highest standard of medical care afforded to our Armed Forces, as part of his training. It was his experience in the army that first sparked his interest in orthopaedic surgery, particularly the treatment of knee injuries.

He left the army in 2004 and is now the principal complex knee surgeon for a catchment area in London of 1 million people. He treats patients of all ages with knee problems and has a particular interest in treating patients with sports knee injuries.

He enjoys teaching and is dedicated to providing excellent training and support to the next generation of doctors. He was appointed as the Undergraduate Lead for medical students from King’s College London, with regular teaching and examination duties. He is also involved in the training of orthopaedic registrars King’s and Guy’s and Hospitals.

He is a keen runner, competing at all distances from 800m to ultra-marathons. This aspect gives him particular insight into the needs of an athlete wishing to return to sport after a knee injury.
