Dr Kevin Shields is a Consultant Neurologist with particular expertise in the management of headache disorders.
He qualified first in his class from Trinity College, Dublin in 1997 and was awarded the Hudson Gold medal. He became a member of The Royal College of Physicians, Ireland in 1999 before moving to The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, to commence his neurology training.
While there, he was awarded a PhD for his research into headache from the University of London in 2005. He is one of only a handful of neurologists to have a PhD in Headache research and he received the Sir Charles Symmonds Prize from the Association of British Neurologists and The Lord Adrian Prize from the British Society of Clinical Neurophysiology for his work. He has been published in internationally renowned peer review journals and books.
He hold's a NHS appointment as a Consultant Neurologist at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square and the Whittington Hospital. He has extensive experience in managing all neurological conditions including but not limited to epilepsy, MS and Parkinson’s Disease, episodes of collapse, weakness, sensory symptoms and dizziness.
He is also qualified in clinical neurophysiology – a separate diagnostic specialty that studies the electrical activity of the nervous system.
