Mr Minak Bhalla is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon specialising in glaucoma and cataract surgery, with advanced fellowship training from Moorfields Eye Hospital, one of the world’s leading eye centres.

He completed a two-year Glaucoma Surgical Fellowship, during which he served as Senior Lead Fellow, working closely under the mentorship of internationally recognised glaucoma surgeons. During his training in the prestigious North London Ophthalmology Deanery, he was appointed Chief Resident at the Western Eye Hospital and gained extensive experience across major tertiary referral centres, including Moorfields Eye Hospital.

Mr Bhalla has a strong commitment to education, research, and clinical innovation. He is the recipient of national research awards, has contributed to peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters, and has presented his work at major national and international ophthalmology meetings. He has also co-developed an educational ophthalmology app supporting resident training and examination preparation, and continues to mentor junior colleagues across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including FRCOphth training pathways.

Alongside his UK-based clinical practice, Mr Bhalla remains actively engaged in global ophthalmology and international collaboration. He contributes to postgraduate training initiatives and collaborative research projects overseas, with a particular focus on building sustainable glaucoma services through education and surgical training partnerships.

Mr Minak Bhalla is an internationally active consultant ophthalmic surgeon with a strong academic and research profile, alongside leadership roles in global ophthalmology. He is a recipient of the Ian Fraser Cup for Best Clinical Research at the Oxford Ophthalmology Congress and the UKISCRS Best Poster Award, recognising excellence and innovation in ophthalmology. He has presented widely at leading international meetings including EURETINA, ARVO, and the Oxford Ophthalmology Congress, and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in journals such as Eye, BMJ, British Journal of Ophthalmology, European Journal of Ophthalmology, and Seminars in Ophthalmology. His academic interests include glaucoma surgery, complex anterior segment disease, retinal pathology, and ophthalmic service innovation.

Alongside his academic work, Mr Bhalla is deeply committed to global eye health and charitable initiatives. He has helped raise substantial funds for ophthalmic charities including Moorfields Eye Charity and Sightsavers, and has travelled to Cambodia with the Khmer Sight Foundation, supporting eye camps and delivering surgical and educational training. He is also involved in a Moorfields Eye Hospital and UCL–led glaucoma tube surgery project in Ghana, focused on improving access to sight-saving glaucoma surgery and developing sustainable local surgical training. In addition, he leads the Global Education and Research Society of Ophthalmology (GERSO) residency programme, contributing to the development of high-quality postgraduate ophthalmic education internationally.
