Dr Chris Barringer Consultant Profile
Dr Christopher Barringer is an experienced consultant in interventional pain medicine, dedicated to helping people manage and overcome persistent pain through advanced, evidence-based treatments. With extensive expertise in chronic pain management, he focuses on diagnosing and treating complex pain conditions that have not improved with conventional therapies.
Dr Barringer takes a highly personalised approach to patient care, combining cutting-edge medical technology with compassionate, tailored support. He uses precise ultrasound and X-ray (fluoroscopic) guidance to perform targeted interventions safely and effectively, ensuring optimal results for each individual.
His specialist interests include nerve pain, spine-related pain, and musculoskeletal pain. For patients with neuropathic pain that has been resistant to standard treatments, he offers innovative options such as spinal cord stimulation. In cases of persistent low back pain, he provides restorative multifidus stimulation (ReActiv8) — a therapy designed to strengthen the deep stabilising muscles of the spine and promote long-term recovery. He also performs a comprehensive range of radiofrequency procedures — including conventional, pulsed, and cooled radiofrequency — which can provide lasting relief from joint, neck, shoulder, and knee pain. In some cases, these treatments can help patients avoid or postpone major joint surgery.
Dr Barringer works with patients experiencing a wide spectrum of conditions, including back pain, neck pain, nerve-related pain, joint pain, and abdominal or pelvic pain. He is recognised for his thoughtful, thorough approach and his ability to develop solutions for even the most challenging cases, always with the goal of improving each patient’s quality of life.
In addition to his private practice, Dr Barringer holds a senior NHS post at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square (University College London Hospitals). There, he serves as Lead Consultant for the Chronic Pain Medicine Service and is actively involved in teaching and mentoring as Faculty Tutor, helping to train the next generation of pain specialists.
