Mr Jeyaseelan is passionate about helping patients suffering with pain and disability caused by foot and ankle (F&A) conditions. He is an experienced, fellowship trained Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Queen Mary University London (QMUL). He specialises in all aspects of F&A care including complex trauma, deformity correction, minimally invasive surgery and sports injuries. He has a particular interest in ankle arthritis and total ankle replacement.

Bio

Mr Lucky Jeyaseelan is an experienced consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon dedicated to helping patients overcome pain and disability caused by foot and ankle conditions. He works within a multidisciplinary team, and takes a personalised approach to patient care.

His NHS practice is based at the internationally renowned Barts Health NHS Trust, home to The Royal London Hospital, Europe’s busiest trauma centre, where he is Clinical Lead of Elective Orthopaedic Care. He is also an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Queen Mary University London (QMUL).

Specialising in all aspects of foot and ankle care, Mr Jeyaseelan has expertise in complex trauma, deformity correction, minimally invasive surgery and sports injuries, with a particular interest in ankle arthritis and total ankle replacement. He also specialises in dealing with the longer-term impact of trauma and post-traumatic reconstructions.  

Mr Jeyaseelan trained on the prestigious Percivall Pott Rotation in London, working at esteemed institutions such as The Royal London Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital, and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. He then completed a specialist fellowship at The University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, working with the design surgeons of a leading total ankle replacement system and learning techniques in custom 3D printed prostheses, patient-specific instrumentation and revision surgery.

Mr Jeyaseelan was a recipient of the prestigious AOFAS Travelling Fellowship in 2023, visiting top US centres to exchange knowledge and techniques. He has also been awarded The Singhal Travelling Fellowship (BOA), an AO specialist trauma fellowship (Ohio), and multiple BOFAS travelling fellowships, training at elite institutions such as The Hospital for Special Surgery (New York), Massachusetts General Hospital (Harvard), and leading units across Europe. He completed an executive programme in Healthcare Leadership & Management at the Carey Business School, Johns Hopkins University.

Mr. Jeyaseelan plays a key role in orthopaedic training and recruitment and is passionate about education. He serves on the Specialty Advisory Committee in Trauma & Orthopaedics, the Selection Design Group, and is Training Programme Director for the Royal London Orthopaedic Rotation. He is Lead for Education at Barts Bone & Joint Health and Chair of the award-winning Fundamentals of Orthopaedics Series, a virtual platform for aspiring orthopaedic surgeons. As AO Faculty, he teaches on international specialist foot and ankle courses and is Module Lead for Open Fractures and Ortho-Plastics on QMUL’s MSc Trauma Programme.

Mr Jeyaseelan is the Chair of the Foot & Ankle Committee of SICOT and sits on the Evidence Based Medicine Committee of the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) and the Elective Orthopaedic Committee of the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA). He is an examiner at The Royal College of Surgeons of England and also a co-opted member of the Royal College of Physicians, working with the National Guideline Centre, offering orthopaedic expertise in developing NICE guidance.
