Bio
Mr Bob Chatterjee is an experienced consultant spinal surgeon with dual qualifications in spinal surgery and neurosurgery. He is committed to providing lasting solutions for back and neck pain, preferring minimally invasive approaches, including advanced keyhole spinal surgical techniques.
His clinical specialisms encompass spinal issues in the elderly, sports injuries, surgical and non-surgical treatments for back, neck, and sciatic pain. He has a particular interest and expertise in robotic spinal surgery. Mr Chatterjee's medical philosophy centres on identifying the root causes of spinal problems and clearly communicating them to patients, forming the foundation of effective treatment.
Mr Chatterjee graduated from Guy’s & St Thomas’s Hospital, London, initially training in spinal surgery at Oxford. He was awarded a Culyer Foundation research grant at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore where his research into bone regeneration gained a distinction. He was additionally awarded a joint Neurosurgical and Spinal Fellowship in spinal deformity and degenerative surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and completed his neurosurgical training in Cambridge. He is a recent past President of the Royal Society of Medicine (Orthopaedic section)
A passionate educator, Mr Chatterjee lectures nationally and internationally and is involved in specialist registrar training across several London teaching programmes. He is an active member of the British Association of Spinal Surgeons, contributing to both education and research committees. He advises the NHS on spinal matters and serves as a consultant editor for three periodicals, reviewing spinal articles for several journals, including The Bone & Joint Journal. In line with his research interests, he holds honorary research contracts at both the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore, and Norfolk & Norwich University Hospitals.

Following qualification Mr Chatterjee undertook his initial spinal surgery training in Oxford. He was then awarded a research grant from the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, which funded his studies in bone regeneration. His research earned him a distinction, further solidifying his expertise in the field. This was followed by a prestigious joint neurosurgical and spinal fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) of England.
Mr Chatterjee completed this fellowship at Cambridge University Hospital, gaining further experience at Norfolk and Norwich NHS Trust.
As a global leader in spinal surgery, Mr Chatterjee is deeply committed to education and training. He is a faculty member of multiple educational courses and lectures nationally and internationally, sharing his knowledge with the next generation of spinal surgeons. He is a dedicated tutor in minimally invasive spinal surgery (MISS) and a highly respected UK tutor for AO Spine, the Swiss-based international standard for spinal surgery training. Passionate about mentoring junior spinal surgeons, he actively contributes to their development through regular teaching and training programmes.
Qualifying from Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital, Mr Chatterjee completed his initial spinal surgery training in Oxford. Since becoming an expert consultant in his field, Mr Chatterjee has reciprocated towards his education in spinal surgery. He is a faculty member of several education courses and commits to education by also lecturing and teaching internationally. He tutors for minimally-invasive spinal surgery (MISS), and is a widely respected UK tutor for AO Spince (Swiss International Standards for Spinal Surgery). He is impassioned by training junior spinal surgeons which he undertakes on a regular basis.
