OUR DEDICATED ENDOSCOPY UNIT
Fast-track your endoscopic investigation and receive a comprehensive diagnosis for your digestive condition at London’s most prestigious private hospital
The London Clinic’s JAG-accredited Endoscopy Unit is a purpose-built facility which allows complete examination of either the upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract or the lower GI tract.
An endoscopy is used to investigate all parts of the digestive system. Gastroenterologists at The London Clinic offer screening for bowel cancer or diagnosis and treatment for diseases that affect any part of the digestive system, which include the oesophagus, stomach, colon and rectum.
Some of our consultants specialise in endoscopic examination of the small bowel and of the pancreatic and bile ducts.
Our gastrointestinal (known as GI) endoscopy service has been established for over 40 years and has a convenient location at our main hospital on Devonshire Place.
JAG accreditation is the formal recognition that an endoscopy service has demonstrated that it has the competence to deliver against the criteria set out in the JAG standards.

The Endoscopy Team
The Endoscopy department is based on the 7th floor of the main hospital at 20 Devonshire Place. The department is highly regarded because of its clinical excellence and speedy delivery of biopsy results. The hospital's specialist consultants specifically use The London Clinic’s endoscopy services because of its sound reputation.
The team is comprised of a mix of clinical and administration staff; many of whom have worked at The London Clinic for a long time. They maintain high standards and offer a welcoming, friendly, flexible and committed attitude. The team also has specialist nurses for certain procedures such as capsule endoscopy and PEG.
Cheryl Connell - Senior Staff Nurse/PEG Specialist Nurse
I am a senior staff nurse and percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) clinical nurse specialist based in the endoscopy department. My training in PEG includes hands-on PEG insertion study days, degree module in Clinical Nutrition and shadowing other CNSes in my field.
I am responsible for assessing patients prior to PEG insertion and providing education to them and their families on how the procedure is done and how to care for their tube. I am the first assistant during the procedure which means I perform the skin level part.
I also teach and supervise other nurses in this and in PEG care. In conjunction with the nutrition CNS I see patients post procedure to provide ongoing education to patients and their families.
I am involved in policy writing, developing care instructions and audit. I have also presented in my field at conferences.
Gill Fry - Capsule Nurse Specialist
I am one of two Clinical Nurse Specialists, based in the Endoscopy Unit, who share a job organising capsule endoscopy tests (video capsule of the small bowel).
Our role is to contact patients who have been referred by a consultant for a capsule endoscopy test, to prepare them, carry out the test and ensure that results are delivered promptly to the referring doctor.
Pre-assessment is important for the safe test and good preparation. Explanations and instructions are given by telephone, email or a pre-assessment visit, to ensure that every patient is fully prepared for the test. Occasionally patients will need to stay in hospital during the test, but the majority of patients complete the test at home.
Some of the ways in which we may help you
- Give full explanation of the capsule endoscopy test
- Complete a pre-assessment prior to the test
- Assess and advise over concerns of complications or risks
- Provide preparatory information for the test, bowel prep and patency capsule
- Advise about getting authorization from the insurance company
- Provide one-to-one specialist nursing care during the capsule endoscopy test
- Liaise with the referring consultant or GP and provide a capsule endoscopy report prior to follow-up appointments.
Please note that my working days are Monday and Tuesday.
A number of all-inclusive price packages are available for digestive diseases treatments
