Dr Ricardo José Consultant Profile
Dr Ricardo José is a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine at the Royal Brompton Hospital, one of Europe’s largest specialist heart and lung centres and internationally recognised for excellence in respiratory care.
Dr José specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of lung and breathing conditions. He Is a specialist in bronchiectasis, primary ciliary dyskinesia, chronic respiratory infections and chronic wet cough. He also runs a dedicated clinic for people who develop lung problems related to immunodeficiency or cancer treatments.
He has particular expertise in assessing unexplained breathlessness and treating persistent cough. He also manages airway diseases such as asthma, COPD and bronchiolitis, along with many other respiratory conditions.
Dr José is a founding member of The London Clinic Lung Centre, provides lung health checks, and contributes to the Lung Cancer multidisciplinary team, working with colleagues in the group to support the diagnosis and treatment of patients with lung cancer.
He trained in Respiratory Medicine and General Internal Medicine at leading London teaching hospitals and held academic roles as an Academic Clinical Fellow, Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Fellow and Clinical Lecturer at University College London (UCL). He is Honorary Associate Professor in Respiratory Medicine at UCL.
Dr José holds a Diploma in Anaesthetics from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa, a Postgraduate Certificate in Public Health from the University of Manchester, and a PhD in Respiratory Infection, Inflammation and Immunity from UCL. He also completed observerships at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, USA, in 2015 and 2019.
