Dr Ricardo José is a specialist in respiratory medicine working as a Consultant at the Royal Brompton Hospital. Dr José sees patients with all respiratory symptoms including shortness of breath, cough, chest pain and wheeze. He has particular expertise in the management of chest infections, bronchiectasis, airway disease and pulmonary complications of cancer therapy.
Bio
Dr Ricardo José is a highly experienced respiratory medicine specialist, dedicated to delivering exceptional care to patients with a wide spectrum of respiratory symptoms, including unexplained shortness of breath, cough, chest pain, and wheeze. He has particular expertise in managing chest infections, bronchiectasis, airway disease, and pulmonary complications arising from cancer therapy.
In addition to his role at The London Clinic, Dr José also works within the NHS at the Royal Brompton Hospital—one of Europe's leading centres for heart and lung care.
His clinical expertise is underpinned by a strong academic foundation. Dr José initially trained in internal medicine and holds a Diploma in Anaesthetics from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa, a Postgraduate Certificate in Public Health from the University of Manchester, and a PhD in Respiratory Infection, Inflammation and Immunity from University College London (UCL). He also undertook observerships at the MD Anderson Cancer Centre in Houston, USA, in 2015 and 2019.
Thanks to his passion for education, Dr José has extensive experience teaching and examining both undergraduate and postgraduate students. He is an Honorary Associate Professor at UCL and formerly served as the clinical lead for UCL’s prestigious MBPhD programme, designed for outstanding medical students pursuing both a medical degree and a PhD.
