Mr Tony Andrade

Bio
Mr Tony Andrade is an experienced consultant orthopaedic surgeon, specialising in hip and knee. He is widely recognised as a UK pioneer of hip arthroscopy (keyhole surgery), and has extensive experience in numerous procedures, including corrective osteotomy (bone surgery) for hip and knee ailments.
Mr Andrade is also a leading expert in hip preservation for young adults. He has pioneered and developed nationally and internationally recognised techniques and training programmes for other surgeons in this area, as well as in hip and knee joint replacements. He is regularly invited to lecture nationally and internationally on hip arthroscopy and other associated topics. He has also been heavily involved with teaching on national and international courses, run both by industry and international societies.
He is a leading expert on corrective surgery for malrotation issues in the lower limbs, to relieve the deformity and pain that is caused by simple or complex hip and knee problems.
By ensuring that he stays up-to-date with the latest surgical treatments, he provides patients with the best possible outcomes. He is trained in robotics-assisted technology and performs primary hip and knee replacement surgery with high performing bearings and carries out a large number of hip resurfacing procedures that can return patients to a very high level of activity.
Mr Andrade sits on the Non-Arthroplasty Hip Registry (NAHR) user group for the British Hip Society and is active in trying to maximise surgeon engagement with submitting data to the registry.

-
Mr Andrade was a senior co-author for the BMJ article on a landmark randomised control trial that provided level 1 evidence to support arthroscopic hip surgery in the treatment of femoroacetabular impingement. Read more.
His research interests include:
- Femoroacetabular impingement - natural history, pathoanatomy and the effects of arthroscopic surgical treatments
-
Prevention and treatment of infection in Orthopaedic Surgery
Mr Andrade offers knee replacements using the latest robotics-assisted NAVIO surgical system to deliver even greater accuracy during your operation.
Since being married, and becoming a father, all these interests now exist within a balance of those of family life. Having three sons, and five godchildren, this has also made me an “expert” on children’s literature, Lego, computer games and defusing a temper tantrum!
