Transoral incisionless fundoplication (TIF) is an advanced endoscopy procedure that provides relief from acid reflux (heartburn) symptoms associated with chronic gastroesophageal reflux disease (GORD).

Our skilled gastroenterologists offer TIF as a way to treat GORD without surgery.

What is commonly known as heartburn is also referred to as gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD).  Sufferers feel a burning sensation in the middle of their chest - usually after digesting food.

Additionally, stomach acid may travel up back into the individual's mouth.

Medical treatments for GORD  include dietary and lifestyle changes, plus over-the-counter and prescription medications.

The process is a combination of an endoscopy with a surgical stitching tool.   The stitches made at the bottom of the oesophagus fold tissue over the valve. As a result, stomach juices are less likely to escape and cause problems.

A new layer of tissue will then grow naturally over the valve, making it stronger and more effective.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS of this treatment?

  • No surgical incision is required; TIF is a minimally-invasive procedure
  • Patients can go home the same day as the operation (following a general anaesthetic.
