What is it for?

Non-surgical treatment for blocked and runny nose

Treatment overview

ClariFix uses an innovative technique called cryotherapy which involves freezing cold temperatures.

The treatment aims to disable the nerve found in the back of the nose which causes a blocked or runny nose.

It should permanently reduce your symptoms.

This is a minimally invasive procedure that takes about an hour and you can leave the hospital on the same day.

If you haven’t responded to treatments like nasal sprays and decongestants then ClariFix might be an option for you.

Book an appointment

Our dedicated appointments team will arrange for you to meet with one of our renowned consultants to discuss your concerns.

Consultation

You’ll talk through your individual expectations and desired results with your consultant.

They will outline all risks associated with your procedure, so you are fully aware of exactly what a clarifix treatment involves.

Enhanced pre-assessment

We will review your general health ahead of your ClariFix treatments - this will help your care team plan your treatment safely.

Pre-habilitation

In preparation for your procedure, your consultant may suggest changes to the medications you take regularly to ensure that you get the best results from your procedure.

The day of your procedure

You’ll meet your care team who will help you prepare and let you know exactly what to expect throughout the day.

Afterwards, your consultant will check on you and discuss how best to start your recovery.

Aftercare

You should be ready to leave the same day after your procedure - this is usually an hour after the treatment itself.

Once you’re home, you’ll have a video check-up with a nurse.

You’ll come back to The London Clinic a couple of weeks later to discuss your progress and review your symptoms.

Follow-up

After six to eight weeks, you’ll have a follow-up with your consultant.

You will be able to discuss any concerns and ensure that your healing is going as expected.

Treatment options

ClariFix treatments are an option if the condition is affecting your health or quality of life.

Your consultant might recommend a different treatment pathway depending on various factors.

We will be able to advise you after a thorough examination in a consultation appointment.

FAQs

ClariFix treatments work by using cryotherapy.

This is the use of extremely cold temperatures to freeze and disable tissues and nerves in the body.

Under a local anaesthetic, a cooling device will be inserted into the back of your nose.

Liquid nitrogen is then released to target the nerves without damaging surrounding structures.

It will be held in place for about 45 seconds on each side of the nose.

The main benefits of ClariFix include:

  • Very quick procedure that takes between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours
  • No general anaesthetic required
  • Leave the hospital on the same day
  • Minimal recovery time
  • Medically proven to be an effective treatment
  • Reduces dependence on nasal sprays and steroids

In fact, no other private hospital in the UK provides ClariFix treatments as regularly as we do.

We are proud to offer easy access to innovative treatments that can help to improve your quality of life.

A specialist ear, nose and throat (ENT) consultant will discuss the benefits with you during an initial appointment.

ClariFix treatments should help to eliminate your day-to-day symptoms.

Unlike traditional nose surgeries, this minimally invasive procedure has much less risk involved.

In most cases, we believe that non-surgical treatments should always be the first and preferred option over surgery.

The main benefit of ClariFix is that it has very minimal recovery time.

You should be able to go home on the same day as your procedure.

You will usually only need to wait for around an hour afterwards before being discharged by the nursing team.

Your care team will be on hand to give you any medication you might need for pain relief. We recommend that you simply rest as much as possible, avoiding exercise and generally taking it slow.

The exact time it takes you to recover will depend entirely on you and your body.

We will help you to prepare so you know exactly what to expect afterwards.

Your consultant will work with other specialists to give you advice on pre-habitation, including things you can do before your procedure for a head start on recovery.

We’ll help you recover as fully and quickly as possible by having regular follow-ups with you.

If there’s anything you’re worried about, you can contact your care team at any time.

It is important to be aware of the possible side effects of ClariFix treatments.

Your consultant and care team will discuss these with you. Some side effects or complications can include:

  • Pain - our care team will make sure you have everything you need to manage discomfort.
  • Infection - you may need to take antibiotics after your procedure.
  • Bleeding - very occasionally a small amount of bleeding can occur, but if you are concerned then your care team is simply a phone call away.
  • A need for further treatment - your consultant will discuss this with you if necessary.

In rare cases, the complications may include pain anywhere on the face, nosebleeds and headaches.

We always ensure that you’re well informed about your treatment before you have it so you know what to expect.

Here at The London Clinic, we work hard to reduce complications and ensure that you recover fully after your procedure.
