What are the treatment options for hip dysplasia?
The main approach to treatment for early stage hip dysplasia is surgical; patients have an operation called a periacetabular osteotomy.
During the surgery, the orthopaedic surgeon makes several cuts in the bone of the socket of the hip joint, freeing the entire acetabulum from the rest of the pelvis so that it can be moved into a new position. It is then fixed in place using screws.
The surgery produces no issues with pregnancy or childbirth later in life as it leaves the internal diameter of the pelvis unchanged.
