Our Endoscopy team are celebrating after achieving the sought-after UK accreditation from the Royal College of Physicians Joint Advisory Group on gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy (JAG).

The team, led by consultant Dr Rehan Haidry, lead nurse Edwin Abacan and governance lead Dr Edward Seward, carries out over 8000 endoscopy procedures every year.

It received the following feedback from the JAG team of assessors:

  • The service delivers safe, quality care, within a patient-centred environment, with high levels of privacy and respect
  • There is a learning and sharing, 'no blame' culture, with expert and enthusiastic staff working as a cohesive team to deliver care
  • The service is commended on exceptional nursing leadership seen within the team, with teaching, feedback, learning and understanding of good governance and quality
  • There is a strong culture of clinical governance and learning within the hospital, with high involvement from the clinicians and managers in the Endoscopy User Group (EUG), governance meetings and incident reviews. We commend the engagement with the Chief Executive (CEO) undertaking practising privilege reviews and annual clinician appraisals
  • The unit has a calm atmosphere, is well run, and follows the principles of productive endoscopy
  • There is a culture of supporting development with the nursing team empowered to learn and share knowledge. We commend the service on investment into this learning and facilitating engagement within the London Endoscopy Nurse Network

Dr Rehan Haidry, lead consultant of The London Clinic’s Endoscopy service, says: “I’m delighted our Endoscopy team has achieved JAG accreditation. The assessors highlight the safe, quality care within a patient-centred environment, cohesive teamwork and learning culture in their report.

I’m proud of The London Clinic’s Endoscopy team, including the administration team and ISO Accredited Decontamination service, and I would like to congratulate everyone who is playing their part. It’s a huge privilege to work in such a world class institution.”

Dr Edward Seward, JAG governance lead for The London Clinic’s Endoscopy service, says: “Our aim at The London Clinic is to produce a service that is of the highest possible standard.

"From the moment the patient is greeted by one of our front-desk team, our nurses and world-class clinicians care for our patients so well. We can’t forget the decontamination staff, without whom the service couldn’t run. The JAG assessment team have recognised this and I am delighted for everyone in our team.”

Mr Satya Bhattacharya, Medical Director of The London Clinic, says: “The JAG accreditation recognises the clinical excellence that our service offers patients and the consultants who work there. I am delighted the accreditation report acknowledges the strong culture of clinical governance and learning within The London Clinic’s Endoscopy service.

The report also emphasizes the highly complex and specialised nature of the 8000 plus procedures the team delivers each year during our six-day weekly service for patients.”
