The London Clinic cancer centre – the Duchess of Devonshire Wing, has achieved an overall score of 5 (excellent) in its first Macmillan Quality Environment Mark (MQEM) assessing our treatment of patients affected by cancer.
The MQEM standards were developed in collaboration with over 400 people living with cancer and with numerous stakeholders, including the Department of Health. These awards and assessments celebrate innovation and excellence in medicine and patient care.
The ongoing programme provides a detailed quality framework used for assessing whether cancer care environments meet the standards required by people living with cancer. It’s the first assessment tool of its kind in the UK.
Feedback for The London Clinic from the Macmillan inspection team includes: “the facility is committed to providing the highest quality of clinical care for its users within a well-designed, arranged and safe environment”.
“Staff work hard to ensure that patients are supported throughout their journey. Patients have a significant amount of choice and control and are clearly at the very heart of the service”.
Al Russell, Chief Executive at The London Clinic says: “This award shows our commitment to providing the very best treatment and compassionate care for our patients with cancer. It follows on from the International Cancer Centre of the Year award which we received last year. As an independent hospital and a charity, we’re dedicated to the advancement of healthcare for the wider community.”
Lina Patel, Head of Cancer Services comments: “It’s important for all of our staff at The London Clinic to be able to deliver personalised care which can be transformational for our patients, physically and mentally, for treatment and recovery. We’re delighted to have our work recognised by Macmillan.”
Macmillan Cancer Support Quality Programme Manager for Cancer Environments Jill Weeden said: “Macmillan is delighted that The London Clinic has been awarded the Macmillan Quality Environment Mark which is a recognised and respected standard of the physical environment in cancer care. The award is valid for three years when sites can apply for reassessment.
“The assessors commented on the attention to detail that was displayed within the physical environment across the various type of cancer setting and the quality of patient feedback.
“They also noted the ethos and culture within the organisation for continuous quality improvement. We look forward to revisiting in the future.”
