We recently received the excellent news that we can get back to treating all patients, regardless of urgency, including elective patients. As lockdown restrictions continue to be eased and we are able to re-open more of our hospital to you, we are taking a moment to share an update on the measures you can expect during your visit.

REMAINING SAFE AND OPEN

Throughout this pandemic, we have remained open for emergency and urgent treatments, while fully supporting the NHS. Thanks to the professionalism of our staff, we have been able to do this without compromising the highest levels of safety and security. As well as ensuring staff have all the protective equipment they need, we have also provided additional training and education on how they can remain COVID safe.

As one of the UK’s largest independent hospitals, we have specialists covering an incredible array of medical and surgical disciplines, including consultant surgeons and physicians, specialist nurses, physiotherapists and dieticians.

These teams work in close collaboration at all times, and are united in their dedication to providing the best, personalised healthcare for you, underpinned by access to the latest, most reliable diagnostic and treatment technology available.

PRE-ASSESSMENT SERVICE

Since mid-March, we have introduced an extended pre-assessment service that is designed to keep our patients and staff as safe as possible. It includes rigorous tests, risk assessment and COVID-19 testing prior to each patient’s admission at our hospital.

It also means that all patients and staff entering any of our buildings are consistently screened. We are also checking the temperature of everyone coming into our buildings, and provide hand sanitisation and new face masks

We are proud to be exceeding recommendations from Public Health England for testing COVID-19 at our on-site pathology laboratory.

THE HIGHEST STANDARDS OF HYGIENE

The London Clinic continues to maintain the highest levels of hygiene. In response to the pandemic we are introducing a number of additional activities to further enhance our high standards, including:

  • limiting consultations to 20 minutes to allow for a 10-minute gap for extra cleaning before the next consultation. Longer consultations are of course available, if required
  • twice-daily deep cleans of communal facilities and 
  • continuous cleaning of surfaces touched frequently, such as door handles.

SOCIAL DISTANCING

To promote social distancing, we have introduced measures including asking patients to arrive only 10 minutes before appointments to manage the numbers of people in waiting rooms.

We have also introduced new routes into and around the hospital buildings and consulting houses, which patients are informed about in more detail prior to an appointment or hospital procedure.

PERFORMING IN-HOUSE TESTING FOR PATIENTS

COVID-19 swab testing has been available for two months, a capability that allows us to provide results quicker than using an external laboratory. Over that time we have steadily increased the number of patients and staff we can test, to the point of being able to offer this vital service to other local health organisations.

Recent updates:

  • All surgical patients will attend pre-assessment prior to their admission and need a negative COVID-19 swab taken less than 72 hours before admission
  • All other inpatients will have a COVID-19 swab test on admission
  • We are investing in our laboratory equipment to be able to significantly increase our COVID-19 swab testing capacity (to up to 450 tests a day) and further improve our results turnaround time.

Finally, we have launched an all-new video consultation service that connects our patients with leading specialists from the comfort of their own homes – or anywhere they want.

Connect by The London Clinic is a technology platform and growing community of top doctors and healthcare professionals whom our patients can access for video consultations anywhere in the world depending on their needs.

Connect covers a vast array of specialist areas – including cancer (radiotherapy and surgery), orthopaedics, gastroenterology and physiotherapy – with more services planned.

Connect was conceptualised prior to COVID-19, but we are pleased to launch this new service as a way to provide our patients with even more control over their healthcare needs, particularly amidst these difficult circumstances.
