Nick and Domi jump in the air, either side of Harry

Charity runners Nick and Domi have raised over £6,000 for The London Clinic’s Staff Training and Education Fund (STEF), which supports clinical and non-clinical employees enhance their knowledge and expertise, for the benefit of patients.

Nick and Domi took on a 10K running challenge at the Olympic Park, a venue that has hosted some of the world’s greatest athletes.

Nick explained: “We decided to raise money for The London Clinic to show our gratitude for the amazing care the nurses and doctors have given our grandfather.”

“Preparation was very tough to begin with,” he said. “But with the help of my sister in making necessary lifestyle changes, I was able to achieve my goal of doing the 10K in under an hour.” Admitting that personal trainer Domi: “Hardly broke a sweat in training!”

Before the run, Nick and Domi were invited to have a strength and conditioning session with Harry, one of the Clinic’s rehabilitation therapists.

“Harry was extremely helpful in preparing us for the run,” said Nick. “We got some useful tips on how to prepare for the run on the days leading up to it. For example, Harry was advising us on what we should be eating and stretches to do.”

As part of the training session, Nick and Domi also used the AlterG antigravity treadmill.

Harry explained that: “The antigravity treadmill can benefit people training for long distance running events as it helps withdraw the person’s body weight, therefore reducing the amount of stress being loaded through the joints while still achieving their weekly mileage target. The treadmill is also beneficial for people during rehabilitation following an injury.”

Nick added: “The AlterG gave us the illusion that we were running far slower than we were, as though we were floating, but breaking a serious sweat at the same time!”

“It was lovely to meet Nick and Domi prior to their event after raising a grand total to donate to the London Clinic Staff Training and Education Fund,” Harry said “They were great fun and it is very kind of them to show their appreciation for all the great work the staff provided to their beloved grandfather.”

“The training was lovely bonding time for Domi and I,” added Nick. “As we crossed the line we heard great news on our papa’s operation that he had on the day. I felt a huge sense of achievement. We are already looking to book in the running challenge next year and perhaps even a marathon next year!”
