Founded in 1999, The DAISY Foundation™ recognises extraordinary nurses across the world who dedicate themselves to their patients and families. Created by J. Patrick Barnes’ family, the awards were inspired by their own experience of the nurses who looked after Patrick during his illness and eventual passing.

As an educator, Walter works tirelessly to improve practice and advance patient care through teaching, precepting and mentoring.

Walter was nominated for the award by his colleague Tracy Nanquil, a Clinical Practice Educator.

Explaining why she nominated Walter, Tracy said: “Over the past four months, Walter has exemplified the qualities of a true leader and mentor, profoundly impacting my professional growth as a clinical practice educator and bringing positive changes within the entire education team and various professionals within the organisation.”

“His supportive approach has not only elevated my own performance but also inspired the entire team to strive for excellence, such as continuity of the preceptorship program, creating assessors in different competencies, and OSCE passers to be registered nurses, to name a few!”

Our Chief Nurse, Tonya Kloppers, added: “Walter is the first colleague of The London Clinic to receive The DAISY Award® for Extraordinary Nurse Educators. We’re very proud to have such an exemplary first recipient.”
