How to claim your treatment with private medical insurance

Most private medical insurers will require a GP referral before authorising your treatment.

If you’d prefer not to wait for an appointment with your GP, you can see a private GP at The London Clinic to speed up your referral.

Please make sure you speak to your insurer to confirm your policy covers your planned tests, procedures and treatment with your chosen consultant.

We recommend you keep checking this at each stage of your treatment, so you always feel fully informed and avoid unexpected charges.

The process for making a claim does tend to differ between private medical insurers. So do speak to your insurer to fully understand how to make a claim with them.

For hospital treatments, we have direct settlement processes in place with all major insurance companies, so you don’t have to worry about billing and payment.

How to book your appointment

Once you’ve spoken to your private medical insurer, you can book your appointment with a consultant at The London Clinic.

When booking your appointment, please have the following information to hand:

  • The name of your private medical insurer
  • Your membership number
  • Your level of cover and details of the insurance scheme
  • Your pre-authorisation code from your insurer (if provided)
  • The name of the consultant you’d like to see - we can recommend leading consultants that suit your needs and circumstances.
  • Dates and times you’re available for your appointment

What to expect from your bill

Once your treatment has finished, we’ll send your private medical insurer a final bill.

Please note some insurers will only cover part of your treatment, and all insurance policies contain different levels of excess charges. This means you may have to pay a charge yourself.

If there’s a charge to pay, your insurer will write to you to tell you about this.

If you have any costs to pay The London Clinic directly, we’ll get in touch through Patient Zone, our payment partner.
