Mr Al-Mufti is an eminent Consultant Breast Oncoplastic and Endocrine Surgeon. His interests are in all aspects of breast surgery, including benign breast lumps, breast augmentation, breast reduction mastopexy and therapeutic mammoplasty, and in management of gynaecomastia, as well as thyroid and parathyroid conditions.

Bio

Mr Al Mufti is a highly experienced consultant surgeon with specialist expertise in breast (benign and malignant), endocrine, oncological, and reconstructive surgery. His clinical interests encompass the full spectrum of breast surgery, including augmentation for congenital anomalies and asymmetry, breast reduction, mastopexy, therapeutic mammoplasty, and the management of gynaecomastia.

A recognised expert in endocrine surgery, Mr Mufti has performed over 700 thyroidectomies, with particular proficiency in managing retrosternal goitres. He also has extensive experience in parathyroid surgery.

In breast reconstruction, Mr Mufti is a leading specialist in both implant-based and flap-based techniques. He has completed over 2,000 breast implant reconstructions, including those utilising acellular dermal matrices (ADM), and more than 350 latissimus dorsi flap reconstructions. Additionally, he is highly skilled in the insertion of portacath lines for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.

Mr Mufti graduated from Queen’s University Belfast with degrees in MB, BCh, and BAO, and holds fellowships from both the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS). He completed two advanced surgical research degrees, a Master of Surgery (MSc) from University College London and a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) from Queen’s University Belfast. He obtained his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in 1997 after passing the Higher Surgical Intercollegiate Examination.

With a strong academic background, Mr Mufti has been extensively involved in research, contributing to over 100 publications in the fields of breast surgery, gynaecomastia, and cancer management. He is also a co-author of many medical textbooks and textbook chapters.

Mr Mufti has held several prestigious teaching roles, including Senior Lecturer in Surgery at UCL Medical School, Associate Professor at UCL Highgate Campus, and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London Medical School. He was twice voted Best Teacher at UCL Medical School and has served as a surgical examiner for 20 years across University of London medical schools, including Imperial, UCL, and Queen Mary’s. He has also been a tutor for the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a surgical tutor at the Whipps Cross Higher Surgical FRCS Course.

In his NHS career, Mr Mufti served as a senior consultant in general and trauma surgery at St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London Hospitals, as well as at St Mary’s and Imperial College London Hospitals. He treated both symptomatic and screening patients at the West of London Breast Screening Centre.

Mr Al Mufti’s completed basic surgical training in Bristol and the South West of England, working at the Bristol Royal Infirmary, the Royal United Bath Hospitals and the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospitals.

He then had higher surgical training was a career registrar at the University College London, Middlesex and Essex Hospitals, with a National Training Number at the London Deanery as the first group of Career Registrars in the UK.

Following this Mr Al Mufti had Senior Specialist training in General, Oncological, Breast & Oncoplastic Reconstruction, Endocrine, Colorectal, Gastro-intestinal & Trauma Surgery in London, as a Senior Surgical Registrar and Lecturer in Surgery at the Royal Free hospital, Barts and Royal London Hospitals and at University College London Hospitals.
