Bio

Dr Jayshri A Shah is a Consultant Hepatologist at The London Clinic. She also works as a Gastroenterologist at St Marks Hospital London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWUHT) and Visiting Consultant Hepatologist at Royal Free Hospital, Department of Liver Transplantation; her practice covers a wide spectrum of gastro-intestinal conditions.

She is the Clinical Hepatology lead for London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust. She is also an Assessor for Improving Quality in Liver Services (IQILS), working with the Royal College of Physicians to raise awareness on standards and quality of care for liver ailments.

Dr Shah is highly skilled in endoscopic procedures, such as diagnostic and therapeutic upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy and ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreaticography).

Dr Shah completed her medical degree at the University of Mumbai, India in 1996, followed by her specialist training in gastroenterology and hepatology. She was awarded her MD and Diplomate of National Board (DNB) in 2001 from Topiwala National Medical College, India. She also became a Member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, India in 2001. She later relocated to the UK and was awarded her Membership (MRCP) and Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians London (FRCP).

She received her Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in 2009 and was appointed as a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at St James' University and Leeds General Infirmary Hospital. In 2010, she practiced in India as a Consultant Gastroenterologist, Hepatologist and Therapeutic Endoscopist at several hospitals. She moved back to the UK in 2018 where she was appointed as Hepatology Lead, Upper GI Cancer and Clinical Governance Lead at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust until February 2023.

She has numerous publications and presentations in national and international meetings. Further, Dr Shah has supported, and continues to facilitate, hepatology research as Principal Investigator in various trials, and has organised hepatology training meetings at local and regional level and has led numerous Quality Improvement Projects to improve the delivery of Liver services.

Dr Shah has been a Trainer for leadership programmes, is a certified Emotional Quotient assessor, the skills acquired from this help to improve the quality of patient experience during consultation, and is passionate about Clinical Governance and has commenced medicolegal work as an expert witness to help with clinical negligence.
