Bio

Professor Jackson is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at King's College Hospital, a large teaching hospital in South London and part of King’s Health Partners, the country’s largest Academic Health Science Centre. He is Professor of Retinal Research at King’s College London.

He undertakes cataract, macular and vitreoretinal surgery and also has a sub-speciality interest in medical retina, including age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetes.

Professor Jackson is the editor of The Moorfields Manual of Ophthalmology; sits on NICE’s Interventional Procedures Advisory Committee; leads undergraduate ophthalmology teaching at King’s College London, and supervises PhD and MD projects in retinal research.

His main research interest is the design and execution of large multicentre retinal trials, in particular those investigating novel treatments of age-related macular degeneration. He also has a research interest in diseases of the vitreomacular interface, such as vitreomacular traction, epiretinal membrane and macular hole, and novel surgical retina innovations such as the retinal implant (so-called ‘bionic eye’). He has more than 100 PubMed retinal / macular publications.
