Bio

Saurabh Jain is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon and the Clinical Director of Services at the Royal Free London NHS Trust in London and hionorary consultant at UCLH, both large teaching hospitals in central London. He has special expertise in all aspects of paediatric ophthalmology, adult strabismus, toxin and cataract surgery.

He started his ophthalmology career at Kings College London. He was a specialist registrar at the Leicester royal Infirmary where he undertook further advanced training as a fellow in adult strabismus surgery. He also completed further specialist training in Paediatric Ophthalmology at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital.

He is committed to teaching and training and has mentored several residents and fellows over the years. He is the Training Program Director for the London School of Ophthalmology and Health Education England. He has recently been awarded the Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) by University College London. He runs two successful training courses annually; the London Eye Course and Binocular.

He is a senior examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, International Council of Ophthalmology and the European Board of Ophthalmology.

He has a keen research interest in strabismus and ocular motility and has authored various research papers and textbook chapters. The findings from his research have been published in respected international ophthalmic journals, textbooks and presented at meetings worldwide. He has given several invited lectures worldwide. He is an active member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and the Education Officer for the British Isles Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus meetings. He has regularly refereed articles for the journals The British Journal of Ophthalmology, Strabismus, Eye and Ophthalmology.

He is involved in running a busy full time clinical service at the Royal Free, Whittington and UCLH hospitals which includes clinical work, training junior surgeons and allied clinical professionals, research and educational activities. His private practice is based at the Portland Hospital for Women and Children, London and The London Clinic in Harley Street.
