Bio

Mr David Lawrence is a distinguished consultant cardiothoracic surgeon with over 25 years of experience in the treatment and diagnosis of cardiothoracic conditions including lung cancer and mitral valve issues.

Mr Lawrence obtained his first official medical qualification in 1990 from the esteemed King's College London, which enabled him to then undertake specialist medical training in world recognised hospitals across London, including Harefield Hospital, Kings College London, St George's, The Hammersmith and The Heart Hospital. In 2005, he was awarded a Master of Surgery (MS) degree for his pioneering research in gene therapy.

His clinical interests encompass a broad spectrum of cardiothoracic conditions, with particular focus on lung cancer, mitral valve repair, aortic valve surgery, and coronary artery bypass grafting. Mr. Lawrence is also adept in advanced procedures such as uniportal and video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS).

His combined expertise in the fields of both heart (cardiac) and lung (thoracic) surgery brings a unique quality to the excellence of care he can provide. He performs around 400 lung procedures and 150 cardiac operations annually, making him one of the most prolific thoracic surgeons in the UK.

Mr Lawrence is considered to be an expert in minimally invasive thoracic surgical techniques such as the Da Vinci Robotic Si Surgical system, as well as more conventional straight forward surgical procedures.

He serves as the Clinical Lead of the Thoracic Department at University College London Hospitals (UCLH) and holds a senior cardiac surgery position at St Bartholomew’s Hospital (Barts NHS Trust), two of the UK's leading NHS institutions.

An active contributor to medical research, Mr. Lawrence has contributed to over 100 publications and has undertaken pioneering research which has helped to determine guidelines for national lung cancer screening and the overall treatment of the disease. He is also involved in medical education, serving as an Associate Professor at University College London (UCL).

In addition to his work at The London Clinic Lung Centre, Mr Lawrence practices within the NHS at University College London Hospitals (UCLH) and St Bartholomew's NHS Trust (Barts), the largest NHS Trust Hospitals in the UK.
