The oncology Counselling team

Helping with the emotional strain of coping with cancer

The oncology counselling team is here to help and support you and your family.

They offer a confidential counselling service in a relaxing and supportive environment, where you can talk openly and freely with an experienced oncology counsellor.

When someone is diagnosed with cancer they react in their own individual way. Feelings and emotions can change from day to day. It is not unusual to experience any of the following reactions:

  • Shock and confusion at being diagnosed with cancer
  • Anxiety and worry about the uncertainty of the future
  • Difficulty in communicating with family, children and friends
  • Poor concentration and unclear thinking
  • Anger, irritability and frustration
  • Feeling that life is out of control
  • Sadness and a sense of loss

These are all perfectly normal feelings.

The emotional strain of going through a cancer diagnosis and treatment can bring a significant amount of anxiety and distress.
