Professor David Spalton is an emeritus consultant ophthalimic surgeon at St Thomas Hospital with extensive research interests in cataract surgery.
He is an author of over 170 academic papers as well as the author of Textbook of Clinical Ophthalmology, which has been published in 10 languages and won the prize for Best Medical Textbook of the Year in 1984 and 2005.
He is an adviser to the Metropolitan Police and Motor Sports Association, and is a current board Member of the ESCRS, and a past president of UKISCRS.
Professor Spalton enjoys gardening and fly fishing, and is a member of the Garrick Club.
