Professional profile

Mr Anthony Antoniou graduated from Cambridge University in 1993. He trained in East Anglia, the South East of England and London. He undertook a laparoscopic fellowship at The Hamlyn Institute at St Mary’s Hospital prior to being appointed as a Senior Clinical Lecturer/ Honorary Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at The Institute of Cancer research/ The Royal Marsden Hospital in 2006.

Having completed five years as a Senior Clinical Lecturer, he was appointed to St. Mark’s Hospital, the internationally renowned centre for the treatment of Intestinal and Colorectal Diseases.

Mr Antoniou is a high volume laparoscopic colorectal surgeon treating patients with colon, rectal and anal cancer. He also performs complex cancer surgery on patients with locally advanced and recurrent colorectal cancer. His interests are focused on the treatment of patients with recurrent and locally advanced colorectal disease, as well as those with benign bowel pathology.

His academic interests lie in the treatment of both benign and malignant colorectal disease, and is involved in collaborative research in cancer with world renowned centres. Mr Antoniou is Joint Cancer Lead for colorectal and anal cancer, as well as Joint Cancer Lead for complex cancer at St. Mark’s Hospital.
