Many people expect their sight to worsen with age but are unprepared to lose their fine central vision, as happens in wet age-related macular degeneration.
We provide support and advice for patients on how to cope with vision loss, providing an extensive low vision service.
We can treat wet AMD very effectively now, providing that we catch it at an early stage.
Patients who develop wet AMD always do so after showing signs of dry AMD and regular monitoring to detect progression is essential.
Vision can then be preserved in many cases using intravitreal injections of Lucentis® or Avastin®.
Treatments need to be repeated every month for maximum benefit, but can be continued over several years as necessary.
