The Board of Trustees of The London Clinic acts as its board of directors, overseeing and directing the activities of the charity. The Executive Board manages the day-to-day operations and the strategy of the hospital.

About the board

We are governed by board members and patrons, who share our values and commitment to delivering exceptional patient care. Together they inspire us and help to guide our decisions, and we are grateful for their support. 

We use a dual management system to run our charity and hospital. The Board of Trustees oversees and directs the activities of the charity, while the Executive Board manages day-to-day running of the hospital and planning for its future development.

The Board of Trustees' main responsibility is to support and ensure the future of The London Clinic. They do this by ensuring that it is well managed, financially secure and continues to meet the highest standards of patient care.

The Executive Board

The London Clinic’s Executive Board manage the day to day running of the hospital and develop plans for its future development. The CQC Nominated Individual is Al Russell. The CQC Registered Manager is Tonya Kloppers.

The Chief Executive is supported by nine directors, each with a focused role to ensure The London Clinic delivers exceptional quality of care:

Al joined The London Clinic as CEO in September 2017.

Al began his career in technology-related businesses ranging from start-ups to international corporations. Prior to joining The London Clinic, he led an £800 million business at Vodafone UK, transforming operations responsible for 10 million customers.  

Al is the CQC nominated individual at The London Clinic.

To drive clinical innovation, supporting the charitable purpose and revenue growth. To continue the development of the consultant base to support strategic pathways, while also maintaining outstanding levels of safety.

Tonya joined The London Clinic in January 2022.

She joined from King Edward VII’s Hospital where she held senior roles for a number of years, most recently as Director of Nursing. 

Tonya leads our nursing and clinical governance team to deliver outstanding person centred care.

Her responsibilities include Caldicott Guardian for The London Clinic, Designated Professional for Safeguarding and Director of Infection Prevention and Control, as well as the Registered Manager.

Jonathan has been with The London Clinic since 2016 and is responsible for non-clinical patient services including; capital projects, estate management, housekeeping, catering, security, H&S and sustainability. In addition Jonathan leads the implementation of the hospital strategic programmes.

Prior to joining The London Clinic, Jonathan worked for Capita Property & Infrastructure providing strategic programme and project management for Capital Projects and/or Facilities Management services across multiple sectors, including projects such as The Library of Birmingham, BSkyB Campus Masterplan, ARK and Harris Federation schools programmes.

Gerard arrived at The London Clinic from Sermo, a global social network for physicians focused on improving patient outcomes. 

Gerard previously held international CFO positions within a variety of industries, including at Easynet (BskyB), Acxiom and Dell.

Sophie is responsible for the leadership and strategic direction of Clinical Services (Imaging, Pharmacy, Pathology, Therapies and Outpatients). Having worked in a number of roles and levels within the organisation, she is passionate about the hospital and its incredible people.

Sophie has helped to develop strong teams who collectively drive innovation and service improvements for our patients and Consultants.

Her vision is built around a strong belief in delivering high quality care to all patients through integrated patient pathways.

Rachael is Director of Philanthropy & Community at The London Clinic. Her aim is to create a visionary charitable strategy for the organisation, with the objective of enabling The London Clinic to save and extend even more lives as we approach our 100th anniversary in 2032.

Rachael studied History at the University of Warwick, followed by an MA at City University, London. Her previous roles include delivery of three major capital campaigns in the heritage sector, leading a major donor department at a Top 20 UK University and heading up business development at an international law firm.

Rachael is passionate about the important role charities play in our society and enjoys empowering both our supporters and communities to enable tangible change. In her spare time, she is a Special Advisor to the Kick It Out Foundation, sits on the Harley Street Partnership International Marketing Advisory Board and mentors’ young women at local secondary schools. She is an avid footballer supporter.

Candice was appointed Chief People Officer in October 2022.

She is accountable for the full People agenda, this includes delivering our core business partnering, employee relations and all aspects of resourcing, plus leading our employee value proposition, learning and development, talent, performance and engagement,.

Candice is passionate that our people are our greatest asset and focused on offering the very best employee experience possible, considering employee’s wellbeing, and their personal and professional development within the company.
