The London Clinic offers expert weight management with the revolutionary weight loss drug Saxenda®.

Our world-renowned consultants can prescribe Saxenda as part of The London Clinic’s holistic weight control programmes. Saxenda®  can help you lose weight to improve your health, boost your wellbeing, and prepare for bariatric surgery.

The traditional approach to weight loss involves eating less, improving your diet, and increasing your activity levels. However, it can be a challenge to lose weight without specialist help. The London Clinic can provide expert treatment and guidance in a calm, supportive, and non-judgemental environment.

Losing weight can boost your confidence, improve your health, and protect against developing chronic conditions like hypertension and type 2 diabetes. The London Clinic offers comprehensive weight management programmes that include expert dietary guidance, support and medication to help you achieve your goals. In year-long clinical trials, patients taking Saxenda® lost weight and kept it off.

What is Saxenda?

Saxenda or liraglutide is an innovative new weight loss medication, originally developed to treat type 2 diabetes. Saxenda works similarly to GLP-1. GLP-1 is one of the body’s gut hormones, acting as a natural appetite regulator. The hormone slows down stomach emptying and makes you feel satisfied with smaller meals.

Saxenda is given by daily injection using a simple pen device. As soon as two weeks after starting treatment, Saxenda decreases hunger, makes you feel full earlier, and makes you feel satiated for longer so that you eat less and lose weight. Since its introduction, over 1 million patients with obesity have been treated with Saxenda across the world.

Who can benefit from Saxenda  treatment?

Weight loss drugs like Saxenda can help if you struggle to lose weight because you always feel hungry and are unsatisfied with smaller meals.

Losing weight is only part of the challenge; physiological changes after weight loss can drive weight regain. Changes in hormones that regulate the appetite persist for a year after weight loss, making you hungrier and less easily satisfied after a meal. Saxenda mimics the body’s natural appetite-regulators to help you lose weight and keep it off.

Weight loss medication is particularly beneficial for people with a Body Mass Index (BMI) over 30. It can also be useful for anyone with a BMI above 27 with other medical conditions such as type 2 diabetes or cardiovascular disease.

Frequently asked questions

Are there any side effects of Saxenda?

All treatments have risks and benefits. Saxenda is usually well tolerated in the long term. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation.

Some people also report low blood sugar, insomnia, fatigue, dizziness, dry mouth, indigestion, abdominal pain and flatulence. There may be a risk of gallstones.

Your consultant will discuss any concerns you may have and take time to answer your questions.

Nausea often settles after a few weeks of treatment. While you're waiting, you can control sickness by eating smaller meals, stopping when you feel full and avoiding smells and tastes that trigger symptoms.

Will everyone lose weight?

Saxenda can help you lose weight, and the team at The London Clinic will support you in that goal.

However, you have to make dietary and lifestyle changes too. The good news is that Saxenda can make you feel less hungry and help you eat less. In research, nine out of 10 patients taking Saxenda achieved weight loss, with a mean loss after 56 weeks of 10kg.
