The Duchess of Devonshire Wing is at the heart of London’s medical community, close to Marylebone High Street. It took several years to plan and build and we were honoured when Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II opened the building officially in March 2010.

The Duchess of Devonshire Wing is the largest private cancer facility to be built in London in the last 25 years and its innovative design and approach to patient care received high commendations at the 12th Annual Building Better Healthcare Awards in 2010.

The modern facilities and treatment areas span eight floors. Levels 0 to 4 are above ground, levels B1, B2 and B3 are below ground.

The floors below ground feature a central full-length light well with transparent glass roof sections, which allow the central atrium of each underground floor to flood with natural light.

Level 4: The transplant unit

This level of the Duchess of Devonshire Wing has a 12-bed haematology unit in which all patients have their own rooms. Stem cell transplants and bone marrow transplants are carried out here, and patients with various haematology conditions, including blood disorders and cancers such as leukaemia and lymphoma, are treated here.

Level 3: The outpatient area

This floor has five bays and 22 individual areas for outpatient treatment. It also has two fully enclosed private rooms for outpatients who require extra privacy during their treatment. Patients come into level 3 as day patients for stem cell donation, apheresis and outpatient chemotherapy. The area is also used for intensive antibiotic treatment as well as to support patients whose blood counts show that they need a blood transfusion or an alternative blood product.

Levels 1 and 2: Inpatient facilities

The Duchess of Devonshire Wing also has two complete floors for inpatients. One has 17 beds, the other 18 beds, all in separate, private en-suite rooms.

Level 0: The Duchess of Devonshire wing reception

This level houses our reflection room for quiet time and prayer, holds cancer information for visitors, patients and their families, a resource room with computer access, a café for visitors and outpatients, the administration offices and our specialised cancer pharmacy.

The underground floors

These house the radiotherapy equipment – the three linear accelerators (Linacs), the CyberKnife® robotic radiosurgery system, and two Varian Linacs.

The full-height light well with glass panels allows natural light to come down right from the top floor, even in the underground parts of the Duchess of Devonshire Wing.
