When you are choosing the consultant you see, there are a number of things to consider before making your decision. Often your GP will help to guide you to a consultant with the specialist expertise to treat your condition but there are also some tips to help you make your choice:

  • Check your consultant is properly trained, qualified and experienced – the General Medical Council has a list of all qualified consultants and those who appear on the Specialist Register.  This register shows that a consultant has specialised in his or her chosen field and has the experience necessary to treat your condition.
  • Research your consultant on the internet – find out about their training, qualifications and experience.  Leading consultants at The London Clinic usually also practice in the NHS, often hold teaching posts and submit papers to medical journals.

Ask your GP for advice – if you have researched a consultant and would like your GP’s opinion, they should be able to give you support in your decision making.

Consultant search

Our consultant search tool helps you to choose a consultant. Each consultant has a profile that allows you to find out about their experience, special interests and background. You can search for a consultant in a number of ways:

  • Search for a consultant who treats your condition
  • Search for a consultant who performs the procedure you need
  • Search for a consultant by specialty (eg orthopaedics or gynaecology)
  • Search for a consultant by name
