The Intensive Care Unit at The London Clinic

The London Clinic’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a state-of-the-art facility with 13 individual patient rooms.

The unit was designed to provide the very best environment to nurse patients with complex care needs, and to be as comfortable as possible for patients, friends and family.

We are proud to have an intensive care unit in our hospital, as they are a rarity in many private hospitals.

This enables us to give support to each and every patient coming in to our hospital for a procedure or operation, and gives our patients and consultants the peace of mind that we can provide this critical support and care if needed, and at any time of day.

About the ICU

Our Intensive Care Unit is supported by a dedicated team of specialist ICU consultants and nurses 24 hours a day.

The facility incorporates sophisticated medical technology to provide our consultants and nurses with everything they need to look after our patients.

It also allows us to tailor each room to the individual needs of each patient, even changing the colour of the lighting to suit each patient’s preference.

ICU Facilities

The facilities at the Intensive Care Unit include:

  • 13 spacious individual patient rooms with windows providing natural light
  • A sophisticated airflow system throughout and four isolation rooms to protect patients with compromised immune systems or those who are vulnerable to infection
  • Nursing stations outside every room so patients can be monitored and cared for without being disturbed
  • Smart glass technology which can switch from transparent to opaque with the press of a button – giving privacy to our patients, their friends and family
  • Sophisticated lighting which can be dimmed along with offering a choice of different colours to suit each individual patient
  • Televisions in every room with wireless connectivity including a patient entertainment system which can provide a stimulating environment so patients can enjoy pictures or videos of their favourite pastimes or from their friends and family
  • Our Intensive Care Unit is supported by our Outreach Team of highly-skilled intensive care nurses who are available 24/7 and who provide care for patients when they are discharged from our ICU and onto the wards.

Opening of the Intensive Care Unit

On 23 February 2017 our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) was officially opened by Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall, who is also Patron of The London Clinic.

HRH The Duchess of Cornwall met all of the team in our ICU unit, spending time with staff and consultants and viewing the facilities.

Afterwards there were further tours of other areas of the hospital including our Radiotherapy department, before a speech by our Chairman, followed by words and commemoration of the opening of the ICU by Her Royal Highness.

We are grateful to our Patron for visiting our Intensive Care Unit, where our most seriously unwell patients can be monitored and treated in purpose designed and built specialised facilities, looked after by our experienced nursing team.
