Please use this form when submitting a new procedure for The London Clinic.

  • Practitioners seeking to offer a technique or procedure for which they do not have agreed practising privileges must apply for an extension of practising privileges.
  • The introduction of the new technique or procedure to the hospital must have the support of the MAC, which may take specialist advice. This will require that the practitioner produce evidence that this technique forms or has formed part of his or her NHS or independent practice in adequate volumes. NICE guidance or equivalent must also be consulted.
  • In the case of a totally new technique or procedure for the Practitioner, the Practitioner must be able to produce documentary evidence that the new procedure or technique is supported by current professional guidance, and that he/she is appropriately trained and accredited in the undertaking of that procedure.
  • The Practitioner must ascertain the specific requirements to support the introduction of a new technique or procedure and ensure the suitability and experience of the hospital/clinic’s staff in related techniques, and the availability of support facilities with regard to patient safety.
  • The Practitioner must follow the London Clinic policy relating to the processes for selecting and ordering new medical equipment, with all new medicines processed only through the Pharmacy in compliance with the New Medicines policy and the Management of Unlicensed Medicines policy.

  • Practitioners refers to consultants, GPs and other medical and allied healthcare professionals.
  • Technology includes medicines and medical devices.
  • Procedure/technique includes diagnostic techniques and invasive tasks that directly impact the patient
  • The MAC provides guidance on the clinical perspective whilst the executive takes the non-clinical view e.g. business case, finances, strategy etc.
  • For new procedures categorised by NICE as requiring special governance, the consultant will submit a short audit report after 6 months as part of the Clinical Governance MAC update.
