Dr Andrew Thillainayagam
Dr Thillainayagam's specialist clinical interest and expertise lie in therapeutic endoscopy, malignant disease of the digestive system, hepatopancreaticobiliary medicine, and inflammatory bowel disease.
Dr Thillainayagam did his higher medical training in the London Region (St Bartholomew's Hospital & St Mark's Hospital) and Oxford Region (John Radcliffe Hospital & Royal Berkshire Hospital). His doctoral research was into the fluid therapy of acute infectious diarrhoea (MD 1995).
From his post as a Senior Registrar in Oxford he was appointed consultant & honorary senior lecturer in medicine to Hammersmith Hospitals NHS Trust and the Royal Postgraduate Medical School (now part of The Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College, University of London) in 1996.
This is now Imperial College Healthcare, the largest Trust in the UK, and the first Academic Health Sciences Centre in the UK.
He is one of the lead interventional endoscopists in the Trust, was clinical lead for Medicine on the clinical effectiveness committee of Hammersmith Hospitals Trust, leads an undergraduate teaching firm, and was very involved in co-ordinating the GI curriculum for the Faculty of Medicine of Imperial College (University of London).
Dr Thillainayagam has also been the lead clinician for cancer of the upper GI tract for the Cancer Services Collaborative (West London Cancer Network), as well as for Hammersmith Hospitals NHS Trust.
He is on the Clinical Services Committee of the BSG and is chairman of the NW Thames Gastroenterology Group.

His current research interests include cholangiocarcinoma, novel endoscopic imaging, iron deficiency anaemia, the palliation of GI cancer and bile salt malabsorption.
