We are pleased to be offering COVID-19 pre-travel (PCR) tests and antibody tests to the general public.

An antibody test can tell you if it’s likely you have had coronavirus before, however it cannot tell you if you have coronavirus now.

  • Patients should only attend an appointment and take this test if they are free from any symptoms of the coronavirus
  • It takes just 10 minutes for one of our team to take a sample of your blood, via a needle
  • The test will confirm if you have antibodies to the virus but is not an indication of future vulnerability
  • We will send your test result via an encrypted email within 48 hours of your sample being taken
  • After the test, you will be provided with a leaflet explaining the different types of test results but we are not able to discuss individual test results or provide antibody interpretation services
  • The cost of the test is £98.00. This will be taken over the phone by one of our team. We will only accept payments via credit card or debit card.

The test has been verified in collaboration with King's College NHS Trust and is currently being used there also.

Pre-Travel Tests

A PCR test

Pre-travel coronavirus swab tests are for people who are travelling abroad. This is the most reliable way to detect if you do or do not have COVID-19.

The cost of this test is £135.

Each country has a different set of requirements for when the test should be taken, so please ensure that you time your test appropriately depending on your own personal travel requirements.

We will send results within 48 hours on your COVID-19 ‘fit to fly’ certificate.

You must ensure that the country you are travelling to will accept a PCR test as proof of a negative coronavirus result before you travel.

Note on family travel: The London Clinic is able to offer PCR tests for children under the age of 16, with a parent present.  The parent will be required to swab their child themselves.

Frequently asked questions

An antibody test costs £98.

A pre-travel COVID-19 test costs £135.

No, this is a self-pay service only.

Tests for children under the age of 16 can be booked, providing a parent is present. 

The parent must swab the child themselves. 

Our tests are currently available Monday – Friday, 9am - 6pm. 

Pre-travel tests only are also available on Saturdays, from 9am to 1pm.

No. We do not run a COVID testing services on bank holidays.

We will send out negative results on weekends and bank holidays but positive results will be managed by a Clinical Staff member on the next business day.

Tests are completed at our Outpatient department, 5 Devonshire Place.

Map and directions

The London Clinic does not currently offer pre-travel tests as a home test kit. This is to ensure your test can be analysed and your results provided prior to your departure.

The test is performed in our pathology department at 116 Harley Street. We are a UKAS accredited laboratory under ISO 15189:2012 and our PCR test is compliant with DHSC minimum requirements as a private provider of testing for COVID-19.

The antibody test is taken like a normal blood test.

For the pre-travel test, a swab (similar to a cotton bud) is used to take a sample from your throat and nose. It may feel uncomfortable, though it does not hurt.

To protect our patients and staff at The London Clinic we cannot book anyone who is symptomatic, has had direct contact with a positive case, or is currently in isolation.

Yes. Please provide your passport details at the time of booking. We cannot take passport details after the test is complete.

Our COVID-19 pre-travel test turn-around time is 48 hours. It is the responsibility of the traveller to time the test appropriately.

We cannot accept any liability for problems associated with timing.

The London Clinic does not accept liability for any changes to flight details.

Antibody tests

Patients will usually receive their test results via SMS in 72 hours.

Pre-travel tests

Patients will receive your results via encrypted email with 48 hours of having your test.

Note: Whilst we do our best to ensure your results are returned to you within the stated timeframe, we offer no guarantee to meet these timeframes and as such cannot accept any liability or provide any compensation for losses or costs you have incurred or will incur as a result of the delay in the delivery of your results.

Please only contact us in the unlikely event you have not received the results of your test. 

Antibody test

We will send your test result via an encrypted email within 48 hours of your sample being taken. If you have not received your antibody test result within 72 hours please email us at Covid-19AntibodyTesting@thelondonclinic.co.uk.

Antibody test

A positive test means it is likely that you have had coronavirus before.

Pre-travel test

You will receive a phone call from one of our nurses to inform you of your results, and provide you with isolation advice.

Please note that you will not be able to travel if you have a positive result.

Note: The PCR test has an accepted accuracy rate of >95%. We cannot accept any liability or provide any compensation for losses or costs you have incurred or will incur in the event a false negative or false positive test result has been reported.
