COVID-19 PCR Tests offered by The London Clinic

The London Clinic is currently able to offer a limited number of pre-travel coronavirus swab tests for people who are travelling abroad. This is the most reliable way to detect if you do or do not have COVID-19.

Each country has a different set of requirements for when the test should be taken, so please ensure that you time your test appropriately depending on your own personal travel requirements.

We will send results within 48 hours on your COVID-19 ‘fit to fly’ certificate.

You must ensure that the country you are travelling to will accept a PCR test as proof of a negative coronavirus result before you travel.

  • Once your appointment is confirmed, you will need to attend an appointment in person at The London Clinic where a swab test will be carried out.
  • Our laboratory will analyse your test and send an encrypted email with the result to you within 48 hours along with a ‘fit to fly’ certificate.
  • The test costs £135 for members of the general public. This will be taken over the phone by one of our team. We will only accept payments via credit card or debit card.

Remember that a negative PCR swab test does not mean you are immune to COVID-19. 

You should continue to:

  • respect social distancing
  • wear a facemask where required
  • wash your hands regularly
  • limit your movements.

If you develop any of the symptoms connected with the coronavirus – persistent cough, fever or loss of sense of smell or taste – you and any household members must immediately self-isolate and seek a retest through the Test & Trace scheme.

Frequently asked questions for Pre-Travel Tests

A pre-travel COVID-19 swab test costs £135.

No, this is a self-pay service only.

Unfortunately The London Clinic is currently unable to test anyone under 17 years old.

We run COVID Travel Clinics on Monday – Friday, 9am - 5pm. 

No, we do not run a COVID travel testing service on bank holidays.

Our laboratory team work 24/7. We will send out negative results on weekends and bank holidays but positive results will be managed by a Clinical Staff member on the next business day.

The test is completed at our Outpatient department, 5 Devonshire Place.

The London Clinic does not currently offer pre-travel tests as a home test kit. This is to ensure your test can be analysed and your results provided prior to your departure.

One of our highly trained nurses will complete the PCR test.

A swab (similar to a cotton bud) is used to take a sample from your throat and nose. It may feel uncomfortable, though it does not hurt.

To protect our patients and staff at The London Clinic we cannot book anyone who is symptomatic, has had direct contact with positive case, or is currently in isolation.

Yes. Please provide your passport details at the time of booking. We cannot take passport details after the test is complete.

Our COVID pre-travel PCR test turn-around time is 48hrs. It is the responsibility of the traveller to time the test appropriately. We cannot accept any liability for problems associated with timing.

The London Clinic does not take liability for any changes to flight details.

You will receive your results via encrypted email with 48hrs of having your test.

Make sure you check your junk mail folder. If you still don’t have your results, call 020 3219 3254 or email and one of our team will be happy to help.

You will receive a phone call from one of our nurses to inform you of your results, and provide you with isolation advice. Please note you will not be able to travel if you have a positive result.
