Mr Bhattacharya's special interests are liver surgery, pancreatic surgery, gallstone and biliary surgery and hernia surgery.
His medical training was at Grant Medical College, Mumbai, the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, University College Hospitals, London.
His current NHS post is Consultant Surgeon, Royal London and St Bartholomew's Hospitals, London, which he has held since 1999. Mr Bhattacharya is a former member of the Court of Examiners, Royal College of Surgeons of England and an adviser (referee) for the NIHR Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Programme.
He is an author of chapters in six multi-author medical textbooks and author of over 50 scientific papers in medical journals (including Nature Clinical Practice, Hepatology, British Journal of Surgery and British Journal of Cancer).
Mr Bhattacharya is the current Medical Director of The London Clinic.
