- Prostate cancer
Mr Prasanna Sooriakumaran, widely known as PS (@PSUrol), is a global leader in prostate cancer.
PS graduated Medical School with Honours, obtained a PhD in Prostate Cancer, and underwent Double Fellowship Training at the Ivy League Cornell University in New York and the Nobel-Prize Awarding Karolinska Institute in Stockholm.
He was then directly appointed by the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences Head of Department to become an Academic Consultant Urological Surgeon at the University of Oxford in 2013.
PS expanded the robotic service in Oxford and became the highest volume robotic prostatectomy surgeon, before being appointed in 2017 to University College London Hospital (UCLH).
At UCLH, PS has become one of the highest volume robotic prostatectomy surgeons in the UK, performing more than 150 robotic prostatectomies per year (4 times the national average).
His Retzius-sparing robotic prostatectomy technique has hugely improved early continence recovery for his patients.
PS is also regularly invited to give state-of-the-art lectures in the UK, Continental Europe, the USA, and the Middle East on his surgical technique and research work. PS has produced research in prostate cancer that has changed practice in the field globally.
PS is the only UK urologist to serve on the European Association of Urology robotic urology section working group in prostate cancer, and the only UK urologist to win a Prostate Cancer Foundation Young Investigator Award.
PS is a family man, with two gorgeous children. He spends most of his spare time with his son and daughter on the golf course, as well as taking them to amusement parks. PS also enjoys going to cricket matches and is planning a trip to India with his son to watch the IPL.
