Professional profile

Mark has a large private practice based at The London Clinic in Harley Street and in the private wing of Moorfields Eye Hospital.
He carries out over 1200 private consultations a year and carries out 170+ lasers and surgeries (a mix of cataract and complex glaucoma surgery) in addition to those he performs on the NHS.

He is a Surgical Trainer for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists where he supervises the training of surgeons in microsurgery and modern phacoemulsification cataract surgery.

Mark qualified from St Thomas’ Hospital in 1989. His surgical training was based at the Western Eye Hospital, the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital. During this time Mark was awarded funding to pursue research leading to a MD thesis in visual function in glaucoma.

In 2000, Mark was invited to spend a year at the world renowned Jules Stein Eye Institute, UCLA, Los Angeles. He then returned to Moorfields Eye Hospital to obtain specialist experience in all aspects of cataract and glaucoma surgery, as well as uveitis.

In 2002, Mark was appointed Consultant Ophthalmologist at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, the Royal London Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital.These form the basis of his NHS commitments, where he provides cataract, glaucoma, uveitis and general ophthalmic services to the local community.

Mark has published 18 scientific papers and presented over 30 times at international meetings. He is an honorary Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Ophthalmology and continues to play an active role in research at Moorfields and the Institute of Ophthalmology.

He lives in central London and is married with two sons.
